METUCHEN, NJ--It was supposed to be a key matchup between two teams in the GMC Red. Instead, it turned out to be a virtual one man show. Sophomore Quenton DeCosey had drawn someone attention prior to Thursday night's game against Piscataway. But, it was the game against the Chiefs that finally put him on the map. The 6'4" St. Joseph's forward turned in a near perfect performance as he made 12 of 14 shots including 4 of 6 from three point range along with one of two from the foul line for a career high 29 points along with nine rebounds, two steals, a block, and an assist in an 83-39 victory at the Bird Cage.

The rest of the Falcons weren't that bad either. Andrew Morgan went 5 of 6 from the floor including 1 of 2 from three point range, and made 1 of 2 from the line for 12 points along with 2 assists, and a rebound. Steve Rennard connected on four field goals including three from beyond the arc for 11 points, 4 rebounds, and two assists. As a team, St. Joe's went 35 of 50 from the floor for a scintillating 70 percent including 8 of 15 from long distance. The Falcons also committed just 10 turnovers while forcing 17 in the lopsided win. Piscataway, the defending GMCT Champions, went just 15 of 55 from the floor including 2 of 14 from downtown.

In other statistical areas, St. Joseph's garnered edges in assists (19-5), steals (5-1), and blocks (3-0) while Piscataway held advantages in overall rebounds (29-23) and offensive rebounds (16-5). Neither team drew a charge. The Falcons outscored the Chiefs in each of the first three periods while the fourth quarter ended in a 14-14 tie. Both senior Wayne Newsome and sophomore Tajae Sharpe went three of eight from the field for a team high 7 points for Piscataway. Justin Kirkland didn't score for the Chiefs, but came down with a team high 7 rebounds in the loss.

St. Joe's came out blazing in the first quarter by making 13 of 18 shots from the floor while only committing one turnover. DeCosey led the way by going 4 of 5 from the field while Rennard chipped in by connecting on two of his three trey attempts for a 28-8 first quarter lead. The Falcons got out of the gate with four of the first six points in the first 1:49 of the game as DeCosey and Eric Peterson (3 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and a steal) scored. Over nearly a minute, St. Joe's extended its lead to 8-2 as Robbie Ashamole (3 of 4 FGs for 6 points) scored a layup and DeCosey followed up with a putback as Piscataway called for a 30 second timeout with 5:14 to play in the first.

Following the stoppage, the Falcons went right back to work with scores by Ashamole (off an assist by Peterson) and Morgan for a 12-2 lead with just inside four minutes to play in the quarter. St. Joseph's didn't stop there either as it scored seven of the next nine points over a 1:23 span for a 19-4 lead. DeCosey and Morgan struck for layups while Rennard hit his first three of the game forcing P-Way to call for a full time out at the 2:35 mark. Nothing could halt the Falcons, which closed the opening frame with a 9-4 burst for a 28-8 lead as Rennard clicked on his second three, DeCosey drove in for a layup, and Nick Straughn (3 of 4 FGs and 1 of 2 FTs for 7 points, 2 rebounds, a steal, and a block) scored on a layup to highlight the run.

The second quarter started out much like the first quarter had ended with the Falcons putting together a 9-2 spurt including a layup and dunk by DeCosey, one of two from the line by Morgan, and a drive for a layup by Rennard to make the score, 37-10 with 4:42 to play in the half. St. Joseph's scored 9 of the next 11 points again as Rennard connected on his third and final three, and Morgan scored on a layup off a pass from Robert O'Grady (3 of 3 FGs for 6 points, 2 assists, and a block) to make the score, 46-12 with 2:28 remaining before halftime. DeCosey, who was 8 of 9 from the floor in the first half for 17 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, and a block, then made the score 49-12 with a three pointer before the Chiefs closed out the half with a bucket for a 49-14 Falcons lead at the intermission.

Rennard chipped in with 4 of 8 shooting including 3 of 5 from long range for 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists while Morgan went 3 of 3 from the floor and 1 of 2 from the line for 7 points, a rebound, and an assist. Newsome, Sharpe, and Rahman Ruff all had four points each for P-Way. Over the first two quarters, St. Joe's was an amazing 22 of 30 from the field for 73 percent including 4 of 7 from three point land. At the same time, the Falcons limited the Chiefs to just 6 of 25 shooting including 0 of 5 from deep. St. Joseph's had edges in turnovers (4-10), rebounds (14-10), assists (10-2), steals (4-2), and blocks (2-0). Things got even worse in the third as the Falcons outscored the Chiefs by a 20-11 margin for a 69-25 lead.

St. Joe's started out the third quarter with a 6-4 run including a three pointer by DeCosey before Newsome made one of two from the line at the 5:07 mark for a 55-19 lead. The St. Joseph's sophomore from Union Township then made two more threes while Morgan added a trey of his own for a 67-21 advantage before Temi Adebayo got a bucket to make the score, 67-23 with 2:32 to play in the period. Each team got another score to round out the third, and played even throughout the fourth as the Falcons came away with the impressive 83-39 victory. With the win, St. Joe's improved to 8-2 overall including a 6-0 mark in both Red Division and conference play. Meanwhile, Piscataway dropped to 5-4 overall on the season including a 4-2 mark in divisional play, and a 4-3 mark in the GMC.
