METUCHEN, NJ--It was all St. Joe’s on Tuesday night as the Falcons beat J.P Stevens 63-28 to improve to 6-1. After starting out the game down 7-4, St. Joe’s would go on a 26—2 run for the remainder of the half leading 30-9 at the intermission.

Junior John Maxham opened the scoring for J.P Stevens, helping the Hawks open up an early 7-4 lead with complimentary points from Marvin Crawford and Sky Harris. After that however, St. Joe’s would hold the Hawks to just one bucket the rest of the half. The Falcons got most of their first half points from Quenton DeCosey and Karl Towns. DeCosey had multiple dunks throughout the game, many of them through traffic. DeCosey had 12 points in the first half one being off a Karl Towns block. Towns had 8 points in the first half.

In the third quarter it was Danny Brix (12 points) who did most of the scoring for St. Joe’s. Brix got most of his points in the paint or from free throws. Karim Awad would add some points of his own from the line. Hawk sophomore Sky Harris would finish off the scoring in the third quarter with a jumper with 16 seconds on the clock.

St. Joe’s would open the fourth quarter with a Jimbo Long lay-up and a Karl Towns three. The Hawks would counter with a Marvin Crawford lay-up. DeCosey would score 6 of his 26 in about a minute and a half’s time before ending his night. Harris would add a pair of buckets in the last three and a half minutes. St. Joe’s senior Jordan Tapia had the game’s last bucket with 10 seconds left in the game.

St. Joe’s junior floor general Jimbo Long, whose defensive play once again played a key role in the Falcons victory explained, “At the start of the game, we were everywhere, we weren’t thinking, but we got ourselves together and put our hearts in it, and it paid off.”

With the win St. Joe’s improves to 6-1 on the season. They play Perth Amboy at home on Thursday as Coach Dave Turco will go for his 300th win. The Falcons then travel to Kean University where they play state power Seton Hall Prep Saturday night. J.P Stevens falls to 3-4 and will play at Colonia Thursday night.
