DUNELLEN, NJ—The Gold Division remained winless in crossovers as the Dunellen Destroyers fell to the Carteret Ramblers by a final score of 59-31 on Saturday Night at The Faber. Carteret jumped out to a 20-4 first quarter lead, and then outscored the home team by a 15-8 margin in the second for a 35-12 halftime lead. From there, CHS was never threatened as it went on to win easily. Senior guard D.J. Hamlet led the way in victory for the Ramblers with a game high 15 points while cousin and fellow senior guard, Nasheed Hamlet added 12 points. Senior forward, Shaquille Jackson and teammate Ryan Joseph chipped in with 8 points each.

Carteret scored its 59 points on twenty-one field goals, three treys, and eight foul shots while limiting Dunellen to just nine field goals, a three pointer, and ten free throws. The Ramblers outscored Dunellen in each of the first three periods as they took a 49-21 lead at the end of three periods. The fourth quarter ended in a 10-10 tie. Senior forward, Jonard Hall led DHS in a losing cause with 15 points on five field goals and five free throws. GMC Hoops joined the action with 6:11 to go in the third, and Carteret leading 35-15 after the Destroyers scored the first three points of the second half.

The Ramblers scored four of the next six points including a field goal by Joseph for a 39-15 lead while Hall got a field goal on a follow off his own miss for Dunellen to make the score, 39-17 with 3:43 remaining in the third. Carteret scored four of the next six points including a layup by Devin Byrd off an assist by Joseph, and field goal by Jackson off a miss by Joseph for a 43-19 lead. Dylan Hoski (4 points) accounted for the only Destroyer points during the stretch as he got a layup off a nice pass upcourt by Luke Francisco (6 points). CHS then ended the period with six of the last eight points including two free throws by Jackson, and a steal for a layup by Nasheed Hamlet as time expired for a commanding 49-21 lead entering the fourth. Dunellen scored three of the first five points of the fourth including one of two from the line by Hall at the 6:01 mark for a 51-24 Carteret lead.

The Destroyers then scored four straight points as Hall got two field goals on an offensive rebound and putback, and a short jumper to make the score, 51-28 with 4:49 to go as Carteret called for time. After Mandinder Singh missed two free throws at the 4:26 mark, the Ramblers went up by 25 as Nasheed Hamlet’s jumper from the right wing got a kind bounce at the 2:25 mark for a 53-28 score. Xavier Fuller (6 points) then scored on an offensive rebound and follow, and then D.J. Hamlet swiped a steal for a layup to make the score, 57-28 as mass substitutions were made by CHS with 44.6 seconds left. Nigro, a reserve, then made two free throws for Carteret’s biggest lead of the game with 25 seconds left before Sean Gibney rounded out the scoring with a three pointer for a 59-31 final score.

With the victory, Carteret ended a three game losing streak, and pulled to within a game of .500 at 4-5 overall while improving to a record of 4-4 in conference play.
