This was the opening game of the tripleheader at Rahway High School called the Kowal Games. These games were originally called the Bernoskie games in honor of a slain Rahway Police Officer. Dunellen entered the contest winners of 9 of its last 11 including recent wins over North Plainfield and Old Bridge to qualify for the state tournament for the seventh straight year. The Destroyers were also eyeing a divisional showdown with South Amboy in Guvland on February 5th.
